Preset doesn't start

Is it possible to use a single preset for all devices to set the username
and password settings for PPPoE to the values of virtual parameters for
username and password, then somehow get the username and password from the
external db fed in as virtual parameters? I haven't really looked enough at
the virtual parameters feature and don't quite understand everything.
